Backyard Remodeling Project in Newark, DE
The purpose of this Lambeth Place backyard was to create a place everyone could enjoy from sunrise to sunset. Our design focused on getting the clearest views and making a smooth connection between the home and the outside space.
We started by constructing a covered open porch, an elegant extension of the home that provides a sheltered spot with a look-out at the beautiful backyard. From this higher area, a curved staircase gently steps down, leading the way to a large multi-level patio.
The use of organic curves in the patio design was intentional. This allowed the stone work to artfully flow around a mature Dogwood tree, keeping its natural beauty and integrating it as a central element of the retreat. The lower patio seamlessly connects to an upper patio, providing direct access from the home’s living room and laundry room, making it a true extension of the main living area.
Materials and Atmosphere
We selected TimberTech Advanced PVC decking in English Walnut for the porch—a high-quality, low-maintenance material that offers the rich appearance of natural wood with no complex upkeep. This is framed by Westbury Tuscany Aluminum Railing, which maintains safety without obstructing the open view. The structure is finished with neat Azek Trim.
For the patios and hardscaping, we used strong, appealing Cambridge Paving Stone paver and wall products, providing a solid, attractive foundation for the entire lower level.
To keep the enjoyment going well into the evening, we integrated a low-voltage lighting system from Volt Lighting Products. This subtle, well-placed light illuminates steps and paths with warm light, creating an inviting, safe atmosphere that is excellent for entertaining after dark.
This project shows how careful planning can change a backyard into an unforgettable retreat that perfectly balances structure, utility, and the charm of nature.
